There are always more options than going to college, but are you brave enough to choose them?

“Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?’
‘That depends a good deal on where you want to get to,’ said the Cat.
‘I don’t much care where -’ said Alice.
‘Then it doesn’t matter which way you go,’ said the Cat.
‘- so long as I get SOMEWHERE,’ Alice added as an explanation.
‘Oh, you’re sure to do that,’ said the Cat, ‘if you only walk long enough.”

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV

It’s easy to give thanks when your day is going well. You’re wearing your favorite t-shirt, and you got a great parking spot. Your coffee is the perfect temperature with just the right mix of sugar and creamer. You get lots of likes on the selfie you posted to Instagram. During this time, maybe it’s one more day without the Coronavirus in your life.

But what about those moments when things aren’t going so well? You spill your coffee on…

“Journaling is like whispering to one’s self and listening at the same time.” Mina Murray

Growing up, we did not carry a bible to mass. We went to a Catholic church on Sundays and read the missalette. We listened to the homily and tried to apply the message to everyday life. It was often challenging to put meaning to the priest’s words. While sometimes I made notes on the church bulletin at the end of mass, I would have been excited to highlight the missalette and draw pictures of words and verses that applied to my life.

Doctors won’t make you healthy. Nutritionists won’t make you slim. Teachers won’t make you smart. Gurus won’t make you calm. Mentors won’t make you rich. Trainers won’t make you fit. Ultimately, you have to take responsibility. Save yourself — Naval Ravikant

For over ten years, my mother has suffered from early-onset Alzheimers. When your parent has this devastating disease, losing your memory is always in the back of your mind. Every time you forget something, you wonder if it’s the beginning of the illness for you.

I tell my mom’s story because what I eat has become less about losing…

Pasé 28 años en América corporativa. Siempre estaba manejando algo.

The end goal of going to college is employment.

“participation in multiple internships in college helps students to secure employment or enter graduate school within six months of graduation.” — Eleanor Townsley, sociologist at Mount Holyoke College

Before my daughter left home to attend a private university, we had many conversations about what she was going to do with her degree.

At a price tag of $240k, I expect her to have a job offer at the end of her college adventure. I was pretty blunt about not paying for any degree that didn’t have a path to employment attached to it.

My corporate career spanned from management to…

On a recent flight home from Canada, I sat next to a guy that was a motivational speaker. He was attractive, witty, and had a lot of entertaining one-liners, but the conversation lacked depth and connection.

On my drive home, I was reflecting on our discussion. I realized that even though I liked the guy, he never asked me anything important about me.

Sure he asked how many kids I had and what I did for a living, but it stopped there. He never attempted to dig any deeper than the surface. …
